Mesa Verde -- Cliff Palace - the biggest complex at the park - all this stuff is from about 1200-1300 AD - when the local ancestral Puebloans stopped building their adobes on the mesa top and moved down into the caves - very possibly as a result of some kind of strife. By 1300 they had abandoned this site completely and moved on. These people are the ancestors of the modern Hopi and several other Indian tribes.
