Canyonlands is divided into 3 sections by the joining of the Green and Colorado Rivers. The Island in the Sky section is at the top. Basically as you drive out your little spit of land gets narrower and narrower until you feel like you are on an island. Cliffs on all sides drop something like 600 feet to a mesa below, which then drops another 600 feet to the river.
