Amber, Shelby, Luna and I spent a few days in Cuyamuca Ranch State Park, then drove through Anza-Borrego and the Salton Sea.
95% of the park was burned about 2.5 years ago in a huge forest fire, leaving a surreal landscape of burnt out trees and lush green undergrowth. Rangers think
that the oaks will eventually make a full recovery. But, except at higher elevations, most of the ponderosa pines will not re-establish themselves.
They originally sprouted several hundred years ago, when the climate was significantly cooler. I dropped my camera into some powdery dirt on the second day.
Naturally it was on, with the lens extended, and landed face down. After that the lens wouldn't retract, and the pictures have some noticable brown tinting.
The camera is at Sony being repaired right now.
